Appeals policy and procedure

Rexel Education Ltd is a Pearson approved centre. This policy follows Pearson's requirements for appeals.

What you can appeal about

  • Assessment results
  • Enquiry decisions
  • Reasonable adjustments and special considerations
  • Malpractice or maladministration actions
  • Recognition of prior learning
  • How a complaint was handled

The appeals procedure

Stage 1: Appeal to the tutor

Raise your appeal with the tutor who made the decision as soon as possible. You can appeal verbally, but we recommend putting it in writing. The tutor records the outcome and passes it to the Quality and Delivery Manager.

Stage 2: Formal appeal to the Internal Quality Assurer

If you are still not satisfied, appeal in writing within 14 working days of the Stage 1 outcome, addressed to the Internal Quality Assurer, Muhammad Usman Babar (Head of Centre). The IQA acknowledges your appeal within 10 working days and gives a decision within 20 working days. A different qualified tutor or assessor reviews the evidence and may reassess the work.

Stage 3: Appeal to Pearson

If you have completed Stages 1 and 2 and are still not satisfied, you may appeal to Pearson using Pearson's enquiries and appeals process. Pearson's deadline is 14 calendar days from receiving the Stage 2 decision, so please tell us straight away. Pearson checks that our procedure was applied properly and fairly; it does not normally re-mark your work. The centre makes sure the procedure was followed and Pearson's forms are complete.

What to include

  • The date and type of assessment
  • The name of the tutor involved
  • A brief reason for your appeal
  • Supporting documents, such as evidence or feedback records

Possible outcomes

After Stage 2, the Quality and Delivery Manager confirms the final decision in writing within 10 working days of it being made, and tells the original tutor and assessor. The original decision may be upheld, you may be offered a free re-sit or reassessment, or the original decision may be overturned.

Appeals to Pearson

Before the centre appeals to Pearson on your behalf, or if you appeal to Pearson directly, you must sign the Learner Consent Form. This confirms you understand that a result could go up or down after an appeal.

Records

Appeal records are kept for at least 5 years and are available to Pearson on request.
